Styles P Opens Up About Daughter’s Death On World Mental Health Day
Styles P has spoken out about his daughter’s suicide attempt in the context the World Mental Health Day and acknowledged that recognizing warning signs is more difficult than many people believe.
The LOX veteran spoke to The message in Apple Music on Monday (October 10) along with Ebro Darden. He also spoke about the loss he experienced.
“I’ve lost a daughter to suicide,” Styles P stated. “And thinking about mental health, I probably look at it different from most people. She didn’t have signs. Didn’t see it, didn’t know. She never had no attempts, no anything. Most people don’t know how other people feel.”
He added: “Really, at the end of the day even mental health professionals even experts, lots of people aren’t going around asking individuals how they feel, or how they feel. With the understanding that, as you stated I’m fairly certain that the majority of professionals in the field of mental health must go through some specific course or training to keep their mental state in good condition.
“I think the average individual doesn’t look at their own life, what they’re going through. And measure it on their own scale without comparing it to someone else, and how they feel, and what’s going on, and what they should do, what they should not do, and what makes them tick. A lot of us aren’t in touch with ourselves to even be mentally healthy.”
The daughter of Styles P Tai Styles took her own life on the 27th of July of 2015. In an Instagram post following the tragic incident the New York rapper spoke about the impact it had on his life.
“I rarely speak on my personal issues and i usually express my pain through music but today I will share a little with you last month my wife and I lost a daughter and my son lost a sister,” he wrote on the Instagram post.
“My baby girl took her life and there are no words to describe the day-to-day pain we have to endure and maintain through but in dealing with pain you find yourself dealing with the creator and asking questions and going through emotions most would not understand.”
He added: “But I wouldn’t be me If I didn’t take this moment to speak from the humblest part of my heart soul to tell you that the dream that most of us dream of isn’t the one we want to be! It’s not worth the effort! more important than the love you receive from your friends and family. Although it may appear to be so, but it’s not. …”
In the last month Styles P announced in an extended Instagram post that he was officially taking a break from the rap scene as a solo artist however, he said he’s working on two projects.
He also mentioned that he will continue to keep working on behalf of his LOX friends Jadakiss as well as Sheek Louch going forward and that, with the exception of one or two features here and there, his individual output will cease soon. He also said there are several “important boards” that he’ll devote more time, to and announced that he’ll step down from his juice business Juices for Life.
“Of course, you will see me In the spots and of course I’m going to keep pushing the movement when it comes to health,” he wrote in a part. “I need to figure out the best way to go about it, without causing harm to myself or cause any inconvenience to others. In the event that there is any juice for life-related business is concerned, I’ll connect you to one of my associates and the work will be completed! People require their health. Remember, messages are always more important than the messenger!! If you are aware of how to share your message, then spread it. This is all that matters! !”
The last sole outing Styles P dropped was Ghosting in 2021. However, Styles P also collaborated with Havoc in the same year for their collaboration Wreckage Manor. Styles his solo career is nearly as popular as his collaboration with The LOX and in August, he marked twenty years since the release of his smash solo album “Good Times” with a special concert in his home town in New York City.
