Keegan Thompson, Velazquez, and Morel power Cubs past Nationals
Keegan Thompson had another strong outing on Monday night, pitching six effective innings against the Washington Nationals. Thompson (9-5) didn’t walk a batter and only gave up five hits, with Luke Voit hitting a homer off him in the sixth to end his shutout bid. The Chicago Cubs went on to win the game 6-3, thanks in part to home runs from rookies Nelson Velázquez and Christopher Morel in the third inning. Thompson has been impressive lately, stringing together three solid starts in a row. With the Cubs currently sitting in first place in the NL Central, they’ll need Thompson to keep up his good form if they want to stay there.
