Panthers Fire Matt Rhule In 3rd Season Of 7-year Contract

The Carolina Panthers have fired head coach Matt Rhule after an unbeaten beginning to their season The team announced the news on Monday.

Rhule was playing in his third season in Carolina and finishes with an eleven-27 mark. He finished 5-11 in his debut season and was 5-12 in his last campaign.

Defensive pass game coordinator/secondary coach Steve Wilks will take over as interim head coach.

The Panthers offered Rhule an estimated seven-year contract worth $62 million contract in January 2020 to manage a major rebuild with the new manager David Tepper.

However, the coach was unable to build a similar program by bringing in Baylor as well as Temple within the NFL. The 2022 season was seen as a crucial year for Rhule who brought in player Baker Mayfield to help ignite the team’s playoff run.
