Nicki Minaj, Latto Call Each Other ‘An Entitled Karen’ And ‘Super Freaky Grandma’

The rappers Nicki Minaj and Latto are fighting over Grammy category disputes.
Minaj claimed that she was of the opinion that she felt that the Recording Academy was showing a bias towards Latto by the manner that their work was categorized as reported by Variety.

The Twitter battle between the two stars raged to the extreme Thursday night and Friday morning Minaj accused the newcomer of being “an entitled Karen,” and Latto responded with a statement that Minaj appeared to be “a 40-year-old bully” acting in a manner that was not appropriate for her age and height.

The younger rapper even called Minaj for being “my idol-turned-rival” as the conversation turned sour. “Super freaky grandma is married AND related to fucking rapists. You ain’t gone bully me BITCH! My idol turned rival now u hating!”

Minaj has since removed her tweets directed at Latto and at the time of this article being written, Latto’s portion of the war of words is available on Twitter.

Before things got really heated, Latto addressed Minaj’s request for her help in protest of the Grammy selection committee’s choice to change “Super Freaky Girl” from an rap category to a pop. The “Big Energy” singer posted on Twitter: “I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead wrote to you via DM.

If you’re wondering why I didn’t come out to defend myself, and that’s exactly the same explanation I gave to you when you wanted to know why I didn’t thank you. Ur actually older than my mom, and I’m trying to be the bully.”

The rapper wrote Minaj: “This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w/ her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration.”

This exchange was completed before the gloves actually went off.

Race did eventually appear to be a factor into the whole thing in the end, with Minaj Tweeting on Latto (who has mixed blood): “Now she wiping that spray tan off & being a Karen. They black when it’s beneficial chi.”

After Minaj posted (in a post that was later deleted) she was planning on sharing private conversations, evidently to show that Latto receives undeserved assistance from ghostwriters or collaborators, Latto said: “I’ll post em my got damn self. They’ll all tell u I WRITE TOO! I heard a few of ur refs before they came out too boo. U forgot WE ALL collab w the same writers?? Difference is I don’t deny it. The world seen me writing since 16 on national TV tho.”

The bad blood spilled onto the streets Thursday following The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” hit was submitted to consideration in the rap category, but was changed on the first ballot by an Grammy committee to the pop category.

Minaj dropped a song on social media, and then in an 17-minute Instagram video, she argued that the move could only be fair if the ‘Big Energy’ song was also changed from the rap category to the pop. “If you can’t tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things that they really don’t deserve over people who have been deserving for many years, then you’re not paying attention,” Minaj stated during the clip.

“And by the way, this is not to say any song is bad or any female rapper is bad. But why is the goalpost only ever moved when it’s Nicki? Well, I’ll tell you why. They don’t want the people that they have in the industry to go up against me.”

Minaj’s argument was that she’d likely lose when it comes to the category of pop for “white” and “older” voters, facing Adele as well as Harry Styles, whereas Latto has a much easier road to win in the rap section and she said that the rap category was specifically designed to tilt their respective weights.

Through Twitter, Minaj subsequently shared a screen shot of a text message she claimed to have received from Latto regarding the Grammy issue. She also shared a screenshot of the young rapper (who is also believed to be a candidate to win the best emerging artist trophy) said: “I agree w you however because of where we left off i (don’t) think you need to bring my name/song up to prove ur point.”

In response to the deleted tweet from Minaj, Latto responded by accusing Minaj of being “malicious” in her behavior. “1st of all I texted u cause I didn’t wanna do the internet sht w sum1 I looked up to,” Latto tweeted. “Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off.”

The two traded jibes about their status and age, with Latto tweeting”#40yroldbully” as a hashtag “#40yroldbully” and Minaj tweeting, “All this time I thought you was at least 35.” (Minaj is 39 and Latto is 23.)

Minaj talking about the Latto’s “spray tan” and artists being “black when it’s beneficial” was a response to her raising the topic about race during her Instagram video. “Soon female rap will really not have any Black women,” Minaj declared in her IG speech, but without making any specific reference as to what she was talking about at the time.

Minaj was also adamant that the album of Latto was stiff affair, noting: “You sold 20K, right? Mad you flopped. That’s why u really mad.” (The album ‘777’ debuts at the number. fifteen on the Billboard 200 in April with an estimated 21,000 equivalent units of album.)

In screenshots from one of her tweets that she later deleted, Minaj charged that Latto is expressing “frustration about me politely declining three feature requests. Scratch off is just an entitled Karen who blames others for her album flopping.”

The veteran rapper had a problem with Latto’s claim that she is associated with an “rapist,” tweeting that Latto “1. Didn’t think about rape while she was asking for features. 2. I didn’t really care about Kodak’s history. 3. I don’t mind the accusations that were made against Dr. Luke who was the producer of Big Energy. 4. News Flash Scratch off. I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone. I’ve created millions of people. You’re among them. BOZO.”

The allegations made by Latto against Minaj’s relatives are related to an agreement to plead guilty that Minaj’s spouse, Kenneth Petty, was accused of attempted rape of the first degree within New York and served four years in prison for state sex in the case of 1994. Minaj’s rebuttal to Dr Luke is a reference to the producer who was accused of being raped by Kesha and a lawsuit of defamation filed from the company against the singer which is still pending before New York appeals court.

This isn’t the only time that Minaj has removed social media posts, despite taking on a person or a corporation. In the latter part of September, she wiped out her posts that criticized YouTube for restricting her age in the age-restricted “Likkle Miss Remix” video (a decision that the company later reversed) after she claimed that the company with being “in bed” with her opponents’ camps.
