Kanye West Says He Was Offered Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton Job
Kanye West has confirmed that he was offered the role of artistic director for Louis Vuitton before his late colleague and friend Virgil Abloh took the post in early 2018.
Ye has frequently suggested that she might get the opportunity to be the exclusive head designer position at one of the major European fashion companies, but due to various reasons, the opportunity was never realized.
In his latest interview on the French channel Clique television, Kanye West spoke about the conflicting emotions of watching Virgil accept the role alongside Louis Vuitton as he was content for his friend but was also a little unhappy about the situation that he was entering.
“Virgil goes to be the men’s designer at Louis Vuitton and I go and we have this moment of this hug [in 2018],” he said. “No anyone knows I’ve been approached from Bernard Arnault. There is no way to know why the deal was canceled – I used to refer to myself as the Louis Vuitton Don.
“So when Virgil was at the house, there was a lot of pain and jealousy that I was dealing and also I would sometimes get mad because I would feel certain designs could be better.”
Virgil Abloh tragically passed away due to a rare type of cancer in the month of November 2021. One of the tweets on social media, Kanye West blamed LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault for the Off-White designer’s death.
“SPANK MY HAND WITH THE RULER(S) I’LL GO SIT IN THE ‘PRINCIPAL(S)’ OFFICE CAN’T WE TALK ABOUT MORE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE HOW LATE THE SHOW WAS OR HOW BERNARD ARNAULT KILLED MY BEST FRIEND,” the man wrote. “EVERYONE’S GOT A RIGHT TO AN OPINION RIGHT THERE’S MINE.”

Fashion designer Tremaine Emory, who was then in a rage, slammed Ye in a harsh Instagram post over his declining relationship with Virgil in his last months.
“I gotta draw the line at you using Virgil’s death in your ‘ye’ is the victim campaign in front your sycophant peanut algorithm gallery,” the Denim Tears designer began.
The rapper then called his Yeezy for not inviting him to the funeral of Virgil Abloh and slamming his designs in front of his own back.
“Your best friend Virgil, NEGRO PLEASE,” Emory stated, “this time last year you claimed that Virgil’s designs were an embarrassment to the black community information of your employees at yeezy-ASK LUCETTE HOLLAND…I I RECORDED ALL THE “RECEIPTS” ( Don’t I go into what you have said about v since that death).
“Ye inform the people about the reason you didn’t have the opportunity to attend the funeral of Virgil prior to the public funeral held at the museum. You were aware that Virgil was suffering from cancer, and you rode with his behalf in chats with friends or at yeezy interviews…YOU are broken.
