Kanye West Hit With $250m Lawsuit From George Floyd’s Family Over ‘Drink Champs’ Comments
Kanye West has been slapped with a lawsuit filed by George Floyd‘s family after his controversial remarks regarding Floyd’s death in 2020 at the recent drinking Champs show.
Based on The website click2houston.com, Roxie Washington filed the suit on behalf of Floyd’s daughter, the sole beneficiary of the estate. The suit seeks $225 million of punitive damages.
“Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death,” lawyer Pat D. Dixon III stated. “[Kanye made] false statements about George Floyd’s death to promote his brands and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates.”
Kanye West has suggested the possibility that Floyd might have been killed by Fentanyl that was in his system instead of by the an infuriated Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin.
“I have watched”the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens posted. One of the things that his two roommates said was, ‘They want a tall guy like me.’ And the day when he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes… They hit him with the fentanyl,” Ye said roughly 15 minutes into the scrubbed three-and-a-half-hour interview.
“If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” he said. “When the man said ‘Mama’,’ Mama is his girlfriend. He yelled at Mama’s name. Mama was actually his lover and it’s documented on the film.”
Floyd’s estate had previously had a successful lawsuit against the City of Minneapolis and was awarded $27 million.
Hennepin County Director of Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker claimed while Floyd’s heart condition and Fentanyl contributed to Floyd’s death, they weren’t the primary reason for his death.
Following the death of George Floyd, Kanye West participated in the Black Lives Matter march and created an education plan 529 to cover tuition costs for Floyd’s eight-year-old child, Gianna.
Ye also gave 2 million dollars for the family members of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery that helped pay for legal costs in their fights for justice.
