Jay-z Sues Bacardi To Open Up The Books On D’usse Partnership

Jay-Z is looking to learn the amount of money his cognac brand is earning, so he’s brought a suit against his Bacardi partners Bacardi to find out that data.
In documents that were obtained from the TMZ Hip Hop Jay-Z’s firm, SC Liquor is seeking complete financial transparency from Bacardi regarding D’Usse … which is the premium cognac brand the sense that Jay, as well as Bacardi, have a 50/50 partnership.
Jay and the giant of booze have owned D’Usse since the year 2011 … Jay regularly sings about the brand name in his songs and had it in during one of his Grammys in order to promote the brand. But the lawsuit is clear there’s something wrong with the partnership that it is officially titled D’Usse LLC — isn’t working well.
In the docs, Jay Z’s co. claims that it requires all records and books as well as the locations of the warehouses that store D’Usse bottles, barrels and other accessories … in addition to in all details about the physical inventory of Bacardi and its inventory procedure.
It’s unclear what’s driving Jay to request this information However, it’s clear there’s a sense of distrust among the partners. One line from the documents appears to be quite clear: SC Liquor says it must “monitor the conduct of [Bacardi’s] business to protect SC’s rights as” an investor in the business.
We’ve contacted Jay-Z and Bacardi to inquire about their comments … to date we haven’t heard back.
