Yet again, Both Drake along with The Weeknd remain uncompromising in their refusal to submit their music in the hopes of Grammy award consideration.
According to a Pitchfork report released the previous the 14th of October (Oct. 14, 2014), Drake and The Weeknd‘s most recent solo music tracks were absent from the voting ballots when they waited for the Recording Academy to open up its initial round of nominations in the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Thursday (Oct. 13).
Despite both mega-stars from Toronto appearing on a number of songs on the current Grammy list, However, Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind nor The Weeknd’s Dawn FM were seemingly submitted to Grammy Award reviews. Similar is the case of any singles that come from their respective projects, like Drake’s “Jimmy Cooks” featuring 21 Savage.
The latest denials by Drake as well as The Weeknd concerning the industry’s most prestigious prize follows an era of disagreements each of the renowned artists has encountered in the past with the Recording Academy, the organization which hosts the Grammys.
In 2017 Drake also did not make the “More Life” album for consideration to win the prized golden gramophone award following not appearing at the Grammy Awards ceremony the year before because he believed that the Grammy Awards no longer reflect the tastes of the younger generation. The 2019 ceremony was a disaster for Drake. the Scorpion MC was omitted during his acceptance speech due to his denial of the Grammy’s significance while accepting the prize for Best Rap Song he earned for his song “God’s Plan. ” Following this event, Drake took it upon himself to eliminate his album from 2021, Certified Lover Boy, from any Grammy Award nominations.
For the Weeknd The Weeknd, he started with his Recording Academy boycott in 2021 following not getting a single nomination for his hugely popular album in 2020, After Hours. In spite of this boycott, the Weeknd was still awarded a Grammy at the last Grammys celebration for his appearance as a guest on Kanye West’s “Hurricane,” which was awarded the prize for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Drake as well as Weeknd weren’t alone pop artists to not submitting their tracks. Silk Sonic, the duo consisting of Anderson. Paak as well as Bruno Mars recently announced the same thing.
“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars said to Rolling Stone in a statement Thursday. “We are hoping to share the joy with all of you for a wonderful year of music and join in the celebration. We thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.
