Snoop Dogg & Morris Day Team Up For ‘use To Be The Playa’ Single
Snoop Dogg is adding to his collection of collaborations with legendary artists in a partnership together with Morris Day of Morris Day and the Time fame for “Use To Be The Playa.”
The track was produced by Moe Z Starr, the track features Day admitting that he was the “wild one” at one time however, he’s now coaching youngsters the game. Snoop shares his knowledge of the game in a verse of eight bars in which he calls on those who listen to the advice of his.
The single comes from Day’s album The Last Call album, which is due out in November and follows Day’s previous collaboration in the form of Big Daddy Kane titled “Grown Man.” The Illinois native gained fame in the 1980s when he was the lead singer in The Time, a band created by Prince who released a variety of classic singles and albums, including “777-9311,” “Jungle Love” and “Giggalos Get Lonely Too.”
In recent times, Day has been at conflict with the estate of Prince, because the group and Day cannot continue to make use of Morris Day & The Time as an official stage name.
“I’ve dedicated forty years of my time building an identity and legacy which Prince and I created,” Day wrote in a post on social media in May. “A name that, while Prince was alive and in his prime, he was comfortable with my using. I put my sweat, blood, and tears into bringing worth to the name. In actuality, I was booked by him on several tours and a busy nights on Paisley Park, under the name Morris Day & The Time. He never once told me that I could not use this name configuration.
“However since Prince has left us and suddenly, the folks who manage his multi-million dollar estate want to alter the past by removing my name from me, which will affect the way my family eats. Therefore, as of right now as per the Prince Estate, [I] cannot utilize Morris Day & The Time in any way.”
This year’s last call will also feature guests including ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Trinidad James, Tech N9ne, and Flo Rida, and a concert in 2023.
