The biggest horror movie to come out on Halloween 2022

In 2022, horror films enjoyed a high-profile showing during the spring and summer months the fall and winter months are expected to be an excellent period for horror movies. Horror has always felt at its best during the darker, winter months. From the first Halloween film in 1978 until The 2017’s Stephen King adaptation It, the months of winter and autumn have been the home of enormous horror box office successes stories.

It’s not surprising to find that Winter 2022 and the Fall will see an array of highly-publicized horror movies. Certain of them will go straight to streaming services, while others will only be available in theaters, however every one of these new horror films hopes to capitalize on an upcoming dark and colder season that is the time. From English versions of the popular indie films to highly anticipated sequels to slashers, both Fall and Winter 2022 are sure to have the perfect horror film to satisfy every horror fan.

The 2022 winter horror film season kicks off with the release of Pennywise himself and Stephen King’s It star Bill Skarsgard, return to the genre along with director David Slade’s debut horror film in over 10 years. The month of October will also see Naomi Watts star in a remake of the highly acclaimed 2014 Austrian horror film Goodnight Mommy, as well as the release of a sequel for Ti West’s X film, Pearl. The Grady Hendrix adaptation rounds out the month. Meanwhile, the biggest horror film of October is hoping to bring an impressive box office haul by bringing the curtain down against Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. A long and high-profile, thrilling VOD release will conclude the 2022 winter horror movie calendar with a bang.

1. Barbarian (September 9, Theaters)

The film stars Bill Skarsgard and Georgina Campbell, Barbarian has a disquietingly simple plot. A young tourist spots an unidentified squatter at the vicinity of her Air B+B and, stranded with no other option, she spends the night with an elusive stranger. But the fact that anyone who’s seen the trailer of the makers of Stephen King’s It can confirm that the plot isn’t straightforward. And involves the underground labyrinth, hallucinatory images as well as a typical sexy Justin Long. A surreal and spooky horror film, Barbarian is the work of Zach Cregger who was a founder of the legendary improv group The Whitest Kids U’Know Early reactions suggest that the two-hander is frightening, scary, and unpredictable and, of course, one of the “WTF movie of the year”.

2. Dark Harvest (September 9)

Dark Harvest has an appealingly bizarre, fairytale-like story in which the boys in a rural village participate in a ritual every year that pits them against famous Sawtooth Jack. A terrifying nightmare, Sawtooth Jack is a ghost that the boys of the town are hunting (and get hunted down by) each October, with the final remaining survivor getting the chance to escape the town that is dead. What makes this plot exciting is the fact of David Slade. The director of the supernatural horror film 30 Days of Night (and the underrated Twilight film adaptation Eclipse) will be returning for a big-screen debut to film this film. In this way, horror moviegoers will be able to enjoy a captivating blend of gore, fantasy and tension with Dark Harvest’s arrival in September.

3. Goodnight Mommy (September 16)

In 2008, when Naomi Watts starred in 2008’s devastating Funny Games. Many critics and admirers of Michel Haneke’s powerful original 1997 film were stunned to find that the unsettling terror was even more powerful when it was re-recorded in English. Although Goodnight Mommy isn’t sticking to the original director’s team however, this Austrian horror remake is expected to have Watts once again prove terror can transcend any barrier in the language. The twisted tale of two brothers who suspect that their mother is a fraud after she is returned from a mysterious procedure, Goodnight Mommy is expected to be as frightening and shocking as the original version.

4. Pearl (September 16, Theaters)

Director Ti West’s slasher from the past X is getting a prequel with Pearl Darkly comic horror that takes place in 1918. The tale that tells how the murderous villain of X began to emerge. Pearl will chart the character’s gradual change from being a lovely Southern girl to a gruesome killer. Although X was a shockingly sad (if not shockingly gruesome) book about beauty and ageing. Pearl looks set to be a bloody, more expansive and more cartoonish one according to the prequel’s explosive trailer. However, it will surely be tragically spelled out due to the events that unfolded in X and X, so be prepared for Pearl to be able to mix tones in the same way as it did in its elegiac, but also hilariously bloody predecessor.

5. Halloween Ends (October 14, Theaters)

The long-awaited final fight of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers is in the making since 1978. The last chapter of David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween reboots Halloween Ends will pick up several years after the horrific conclusion of the previous season’s Halloween Kills. The savage sequel ended with Michael Myers seeming stronger than ever. But if Halloween Ends will bring back the biggest twist of the franchise and the final chapter of the lengthy saga will be the final chapter in Michael Myers’ rule of terror. If Michael will be taking Jamie Lee Curtis’ Final Girl with him, it is yet to be determined. The third edition of the franchise Green’s trilogy started strong with Halloween in 2018 and retconned every episode in the style of John Carpenter’s famous 1978 original. But, Halloween Kills was reasonably condemned for not moving the plot of the trilogy prior to its final installment. The question of whether you will see the Cult of Thorne, Silver Shamrock Novelties or other lore from the franchise will be resurrected in the final film is not certain yet however, Halloween Ends will wrap up the trilogy for good with the long-awaited release.

6. Nanny (November 23, Theaters)

For those seeking something more elegant and atmospheric than Michael’s previous work. Nanny tells a terrifying tale of exploitation by immigrants as an undocumented child care provider is plagued by an unidentified supernatural entity. It is believed to be one of the best horror films of 2022. Nanny won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival before being bought by Blumhouse for $7 million after a heated bidding fight against NEON as well as Sony Pictures Classics. Nanny tells an account of Aisha who is a Senegalese nanny, who is preparing for the birth of her child she had left at home in West Africa. When she is employed by an affluent Manhattan couple, her life gets turned upside down when a violent force disrupts her life. In addition to the raving reviews that Nanny was given. With the remarkable price, and its Sundance success, there’s an excellent reason to believe that the horror film of 2022 might be one of the top genre movies of the year.
