Jay-z Awarded $7m Royalties In Perfume Lawsuit

JAY-Z was awarded close to 7 million dollars in royalty payments from a Manhattan Judge on Wednesday (August 25, 2013) in his trademark 2013 scent Gold by Jay Z.

As reported by The New York Post, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Andrew Borrok ruled that Jay-Z would receive $6.78 million and interest on royalty payments that are not paid by the company behind perfume Parlux.

“We’ve been awarded and will be receiving the money as we should,” Hov’s lawyer Alex Spiro told The Post following the decision.

The Brooklyn mogul and the Parlux signed the deal in 2012 and released the Gold by Jay-Z scent one year later.

Parlux later sued Hov in 2016 following the cologne sank in 2016 and she accused Jay in 2016 of not marketing the line in a proper manner. They claimed that Hov did not show up at Macy’s 2014 Jay-Z Gold launch, and also skipped out on promotional spots on Good Morning America.

In November In November NYC judge decided that JAY-Z did not violate his agreement in the relationship with Parlux and also helped to legally avoid the lawsuit for $67 million.

Hov challenged the suit to win $4.5 million in royalties on the 24th of February from an appeals court within New York City stemming from previous cologne sales that had been accumulating, that Jay’s lawyers legally demanded in the fall of.

“The record is clear: Parlux sold licensed products after July 31, 2015, but failed to pay royalties on those sales,” Justice John Higgitt wrote.

Parlux has filed another appeal against Borrok’s decision.

The album Gold from Jay-Z was released around the time of his Magna Carta Holy Grail album, which was released in 2013, and is a tribute to the lavish and luxurious lifestyle Hov lived in his 40s. The three-ounce white bottle is sold on Amazon at a cost of $50.
