Eminem And Snoop Dogg Performed As Their Bored Ape Yacht Club Avatars At The Vmas

Rappers Eminem and Snoop Dogg gave performances at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday dressed as their Bored Ape Yacht Club personas. The group appeared in Otherside, a forthcoming metaverse game from Yuga Labs where owners of BAYC NFTs can play as their Ape avatars. They performed their VMA-nominated track “From the D 2 the LBC.“

A gamified, interoperable metaverse is currently being developed, according to Otherside. The game combines elements of web3-enabled virtual worlds and massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).

In late June, “From the D 2, the LBC” was made available as a single with a music video. Eminem and Snoop Dogg are shown as their respective BAYC avatars in both the single’s cover art and the accompanying video. Live-action photos of the performers are intercut with footage of the pair as their BAYC avatars in the video. While Snoops Dogg’ Ape is dressed in leopard print skin, a pink fur jacket, and an army helmet, Eminem is sporting a grey cap and gold chains.

The rappers are taking use of the IP rights that come with owning Bored Ape NFTs by selling NFT memorabilia of the VMA performance under the name Ape Editions. Bobbleheads, skateboards, prints, and concept art for the original, but as of yet unpublished, comic book The Dynamic Return of Eminem and Snoop Dogg are for sale.

According to We Are the Mighty, a military-focused digital publication, Snoop Dogg‘s BAYC avatar’s Screaming Eagles helmet has caused some controversy because it served as an anti-peace emblem during the Vietnam War.
