Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg Are ‘Cooking Up’ Some New Music Together
Snoop Dogg has confirmed that Dr. Dre and he are once again “cooking up” some new music in the studio.
At the LA premiere of his latest film, Day Shift, Snoop told ET, “We’re cooking up a little something.” I don’t want to get into too much detail, but we are reuniting. We haven’t worked on a record in 30 years, but we’re still doing and working on things.
Dre and Snoop have a long and distinguished history working together; they collaborated on a number of the greatest rap songs, including “Still D.R.E.,” “The Next Episode,” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” among many more. A handful of their tunes were performed by the group when they reassembled on the Super Bowl stage for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show earlier this year.
Snoop’s cryptic red carpet announcement also follows his Instagram confirmation in April that he had reconnected with Dre in the studio. However, astute fans immediately noticed a possible tracklist written on a whiteboard behind Dre, leading many to speculate that it might be a tracklist for the eagerly anticipated Detox.
Detox may not even be in the works, since Dr. Dre claimed in 2015 that he ultimately canceled the project because he just didn’t like it.
Dr. Dre reveals the reason
At the time, he revealed on Beats 1 Radio, “This is something you’re not going to hear many artists say: the reason that Detox didn’t come out was that I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it. The album really wasn’t that fantastic. Honestly, despite the fact that I gave it my all, I didn’t feel I did a good enough job. To be completely honest, I couldn’t do that to my followers or to myself.
Regardless, since taking over Death Row Records last year, Snoop has been working hard to provide his fans with new music. He previously dropped off a new solo project, The Algorithm, back in February. He most recently released a new summer album called Death Row Summer 2022.
In June, Snoop Dogg and Eminem released a new song together called “From The D 2 The LBC,” and more recently, he collaborated with benny blanco and the K-Pop group BTS on the song “Bad Decisions.” Snoop Dogg also put an end to his long-running feud with Eminem.
“Hey, I just try to stay active,” Snoop told ET of the latter collaboration while on the red carpet. “The youngsters, they reach out, they call me… I’m all about music. One thing about me, I don’t like being boxed in. I like being a part of every genre of music so when they reach out and call, I’ll usually say yeah.”
