Russell Westbrook, a former MVP who had one of his worst seasons last year, is the player the Los Angeles Lakers have been shopping the most this offseason. Due to his poor shooting and ineffective play off the ball. The point guard had a difficult time fitting into the Lakers’ lineup. He was exposed on numerous levels. However, it’s possible that the Lakers have been attempting to trade the incorrect player in an effort to add a star to complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

What would happen if the Lakers traded LeBron James, who is presently regarded as one of the best five players in the world? The King had a terrific season, scoring 30.3 points per game, averaging 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists, and making 52.4% of his field goals. These are excellent numbers coming from an elite player, so it makes sense that the Lakers are looking for a teammate to pair with him. Finding a good teammate for LeBron James and Anthony Davis, though, is easier said than done.

For starters, Westbrook’s lackluster performance in 2017 combined with his $44 million salary make him practically an untraceable asset. LeBron is getting close to turning 38, and the only way to gamble on a two-year window is by giving up all of the franchise’s future draft capital. The idea that the Lakers might become contenders by just trading Westbrook and all of their draft pick is probably improbable.

Instead, the Lakers should try to trade LeBron James. As crazy as that sounds, it could work because he has the most trade value on the team. And could be a player that could bring in a legitimate superstar to pair alongside Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. This could work, especially if one of the three packages delivers a chance for the Lakers to be competitive again. Because as things stand, the Lakers will not win with their roster. And won’t be able to bring in a star at the expense of Russell Westbrook.

Perhaps most importantly, leaving Los Angeles could give LeBron James the best chance to win his elusive 5th NBA championship, an achievement that would probably take his legacy to an entirely different level. Without further ado, here are the three best trade packages that could be offered for the services of 4-time NBA champion LeBron James.
